after about a half a year of royl space being just kyle and myself, we added our friend and my constant bandmate sam cook-parrott on bass. 6 days after we added him and learned a few new songs we played our first show. we have a couple more shows this month, then in october we're going to be releasing our first tape as a three piece, and hopefully start putting things together for a 7" to come out in the late fall.

HAUSU

lately i can't get enough of this pretty new band out of portland, OR called HAUSU. they have a great 80s style heavy chorus guitar sound going on, with some orange juice style vocals to top it all off. check out a few songs on their bandcamp, and definitely seek out some of the live videos on youtube. their song "ilsebill" is absolutely one of the best songs i've heard all year.

BROKEN COAST

last night i retired a set of very old songs with my other band skeleton party. i think the conscious decision to abandon old material inspired me to work on new sounds and go in new directions this morning and afternoon. i spent the day in my bedroom playing guitar and going over lyrics and playing drums. i don't know how far this sort of sound will go, but in the meantime it's making me feel really great, helping me get through the day, and making me excited to live. i recorded two songs, only one of which i'm ready to put up right now. link below.

fire season and contained fire. everything smells better. the smoke, onion, simmering soup, laundry, an unwashed towel. i'm drinking a cold beer slowly, remembering train stations in lacey, WA, not far from olympia. i felt a beautiful cool breeze come through the three working windows of my buick at wealthy & eastern, a red light around 5 o clock. a slow pitch. no sheets on the bed. a slow pitch. hours of rain. the hard cool morning light in portland, two years now. i am truly happy in the morning, between 7 am and 10. the light is non judgmental and the air is neutral. it's not that i only like being alone, it's that i prefer it to being around anyone who doesn't understand these things. about the morning, i mean.
